Adding a virtual printer on Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard):
- Launch the Print & Fax Utility (Click on the Apple Menu, select System Preferences, and, click on the Print & Fax System Preference).
- Click on the lock to make changes or authenticate.
- Click the (Plus) button just above the lock.
- Choose IP from the menu.
- Choose Internet Printing Protocol - IPP from the Protocol pop-up menu.
- In the Address field, enter 127.0.0.1.
- In the Name field, enter 127.0.0.1.
- Choose Generic PostScript Printer from the Print Using drop-down menu.
- Click Add.
- Quit the Print & Fax and System Preferences windows.
Adding a virtual printer on Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger):
- Launch the Printer Setup Utility (Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility).
- Click Add. The Printer Browser dialog box displays.
- Select IP Printer.
- Choose Internet Printing Protocol - IPP from the Protocol pop-up menu.
- In the Address field, enter 127.0.0.1.
- In the Name field, enter 127.0.0.1.
- Choose Apple from the Print Using drop-down menu.
- In the Model list, select a PostScript printer such as Apple Color LaserWriter 12/600 PS v2014.108.
- Click Add, and then click Continue if a dialog box displays.
- In the Installable Options screen, click Continue. 127.0.0.1 displays as a printer in the Printer List window.
- Select the 127.0.0.1 printer and then click Make Default.
- Quit the Printer Setup Utility.
Adding a virtual printer on Mac OS X 10.3 and earlier:
- For Mac OS X 10.3, launch Printer Setup Utility (Applications/Utilities/Printer Setup Utility). For versions of Mac OS X before 10.3, launch Print Center (Applications/Utilities/Print Center).
- Click Add.
- Choose IP Printing from the drop-down menu at the top.
- In the Printers Address field, enter 127.0.0.1.
- Click Add. 127.0.0.1 displays as a printer in the Printer List window.
- Select the 127.0.0.1 printer and then click Make Default.
- Quit the application.

Click on Add a Printer

Select Add a Local Printer

Select the option Use an existing port and Select LPT1 (Print to File)

Select an option from Manufacturer

Check the option Use the driver that I currently installed.

Check the option Do not share

Click Finish.
Adding a virtual printer on Windows Vista:
- Choose Start > Control Panel.
- Double-click the Printers icon.
- Choose Add Printer icon from the File menu. The Add Printer Wizard window displays.
- Select Add a Local Printer option.
- Click Next.
- Select the option Use existing port and then choose FILE: (Print to File) from the drop-down menu.
- Click Next.
- Select a PostScript printer such as the HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS.
- Click Next.
- Select the option Use the driver that is currently installed (recommended).
- Click Next.
- The Type a Printer name screen displays.
- Enter a name for the printer and check the checkbox for Set as the default printer.
- Click Next.
- The Print Test Page screen displays.
- Ignore Print a test page and click Finish.
Adding a virtual printer on Windows 2000 and Windows XP:
- Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
- Double-click the Printers and Faxes icon.
- Double-click the Add Printer icon. The Add Printer Wizard window displays.
- Click Next. The following message displays: 'The wizard was unable to detect any Plug and Play printer. To install the printer manually, click Next.'
- Click Next. The Select a Printer Port screen displays.
- Select Local Printer attached to this computer and uncheck Automatically detect and install my Plug and Play printer.
- Click Next.
- Select Use the following port and then choose FILE: (Print to File) from the drop-down menu.
- Click Next.
- Select a PostScript printer such as the HP Color LaserJet 8500 PS.
- Click Next. The Name Your Printer screen displays.
- Enter a name for the printer and select Yes under Do you want to use this printer as the default printer?
- Click Next. The Printer Sharing screen displays.
- Select Do not share this printer.
- Click Next. The Print Test Page screen displays.
- Select No under Do you want to print a test page.
- Click Next, and then click Finish.
