How to Temporarily Override the Current Setting for Smart Quotes

You can temporarily override the current setting in the Input Preferences using the Control key:

For Macintosh: When Smart Quotes is enabled, press Control while typing the quotation characters.

For Windows: When Smart Quotes is enabled, press Ctrl' for feet (') or Ctrlɛ' for inches (').

Background:

Smart Quotes functionality can be turned off temporarily by using a keystroke while typing the single or double quote keys.
