To set up a customized Colors palette using duplicated and renamed default colors, follow these steps:
- Launch QuarkXPress. (Ensure that no projects are open for Steps 2-5 below)
- Go to Edit > Colors.
- Select Cyan (or any other color that you want to duplicate and customize) and click Duplicate.
- By default QuarkXPress will name it Cyan Copy. Rename your custom Cyan color and click OK.
- Repeat steps 1-4 for other customized process colors you want to include in your default Colors palette.
- Click Save.
Whenever you create a new project, the new colors will display in the Colors palette by default.
Background:
QuarkXPress permits you to globally replace one color with another throughout the application after you create the color. This is useful when you are preparing a file that is reproduced on a monthly basis and want to use customized color sets for each publication. For example, suppose you needed a customized Cyan plate for a particular color output that you want to change from 97% Cyan to 83% Cyan for the next month's publication. You can do so by duplicating the default Cyan color, giving the duplicate Cyan color a custom name, and setting it up as a spot color. After you've done this, all you have to do is change the percentage of Custom Cyan during the next publication cycle.
