Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw, Macromedia Freehand, and Adobe Photoshop, the most common image editing and graphics applications, are used to create graphics and photographic images that can then be imported into QuarkXPress layouts via the Import function.

For articles or raw text documents created by word processor applications, QuarkXPress uses import filters, a type of XTensions software, that allow you to import your text files, along with formatting and style sheet information, into QuarkXPress layouts. You can also export text in certain text file formats. Filters for the most popular word-processing applications, such as Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, are provided with QuarkXPress.

QuarkXPress provides ICC-based color management on both Mac OS and Windows platforms. Currently supported color management systems include ColorSync, LogoSync, and
the Kodak Color Management System.
